Star of Wild Horse Canyon by Clyde Robert Bulla

Travel back in time and imagine a young girl reading this book. She's in a horse-themed room surrounded by her equine stuffed animals. That's what it felt like to read this short story. I got sent back to my younger years.

The Book

Yes, another horse book.

This one is a Scholastic edition by Mr. Bulla that follows a young boy and the need for another horse. However, he didn't notice his need for another steed until his uncle noticed he was becoming too overgrown for his pony.

While fast-paced (and fit for children), the story continues to bring about the need to wrangle wild horses, the boy's uncle gifts him the wild horse he fell in love with, taming said horse, only for it to wind up missing. Then, at the end, the Mustang comes home. Other things happened in the story that I feel shouldn't have been in there as it didn't bring much to the main plot of the Mustang missing towards the end.

In terms of if a child read this, goosebumps and felt as if they could do the same for a Mustang. We, as equestrians, once all dreamed about taming a beautiful mustang in our youth. What a wonderful thing to tame a horse while reading.
