Teddie Peacock, a mystery and suspense author, resides in Alabama, with her husband and two rescue dogs, Molly and Josie. Before embarking on her writing career, she served as a college writing instructor for 11 years. Her passion for the mystery/suspense/thriller genre was ignited by her neighborhood book club, “Book Club is My Alibi,” which she joined about two and a half years ago.
Her writing journey began in the sixth grade when her English teacher, Mr. Revels, predicted she would become a writer. Although it took some time for her to embrace this path, she now fully dedicates herself to crafting stories that captivate and intrigue readers.
Before becoming an author, Teddie majored in Journalism and later earned two degrees in English. She always dabbled in writing and, at the age of 59, decided to pursue her dream of publishing.
Apart from writing, she enjoys gardening, “I love English roses and am hoping to hybridize some of my garden flowers”. Before becoming an author, she was a flower farmer, cultivating fields of flowers. She now owns a small publishing company, Speckled Hen Press, and primarily writes in the mystery/suspense/thriller genre. She is also excited about her upcoming book in the suspenseful romance genre.
Teddie chose independent publishing to have more control over her timeline, especially since she began her author career at 59. While she appreciates the benefits of indie publishing, she acknowledges the challenges, such as managing all aspects of the publishing process and gaining visibility without the backing of a traditional publisher. “The only real dislike I have about being an Indie author and publisher is that it is more difficult to get in bookstores and on readers’ radars” Nevertheless, she remains optimistic about the evolving landscape for indie authors and continues to create.
Come Back Home was released in May. Available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited, the novel follows Delaney and Olivia, former best friends turned enemies, who become entangled in a kidnapping investigation in the seemingly quiet town of Pleasantville. The story explores the tension and reconciliation between the two women, with a "Mean Girls" vibe set against a backdrop of mystery and a potential cold case murder.
Her experiences in the writing industry have been positive, filled with interactions with readers, book reviewers, influencers, and fellow authors. Despite the challenges of learning to write, publish, and market her work, Teddie remains determined and seeks help when needed.
Teddie is just starting to participate in book signing events, with some scheduled later in the year. She is particularly excited about an event in Southport, NC, a place she has visited on family vacations.
Looking ahead, she has another book planned for 2024 and 3-4 books mapped out for 2025. She is also assisting other authors in publishing their first books and has a collaboration planned for a mystery series featuring two best friend amateur detectives. Teddie is optimistic about the future and eager for what lies ahead in her writing career.
For debut authors, Teddie Peacock advises focusing on perseverance and continuous progress. She emphasizes the importance of dedicating effort to book covers and the editing process. She cautions against comparing herself to more experienced authors. “Do grow organic connections with your readers”. Lastly, she reminds new authors to breathe, celebrate, and savor the achievement of becoming a published author.
