Memoirs are not my thing, but that's the point of this website and my goals. Getting to know people through my Spotlight Project has been enlightening—I'm exploring new genres and meeting the people behind them.
This brings me to the memoir author - Natasha Chai.
Born in Australia and raised in Canada, she graduated from business school and started working in the public sector. She's married with two kids, and always had a love for writing. It "always brought a calmness and comfort when writing or reading," she told me.
Her first piece of publishing started after she found an old piece of fiction she started in college. Self-publishing was in its "baby phase" at this point. This process taught her what it meant to be an author but not how to market.
Her earliest memory of writing was when she was 6 or 7. Her mother helped her 'publish' the old-fashioned way - by stabling her words and drawings together.
Her memoir, "The Silent Paralyzer", focuses on her journey through her with hemiplegic migraines. Her battle with this, she thought about writing again as an outlet and wanted to help spread awareness, especially after viewing a Facebook group post asking about a book that was focused on these types of migraines.
"The Silent Paralyzer" was semi-hybrid published. She enjoyed getting help with marketing and editing but still had complete control over her book.
There is still a lot for her future. She's interested in writing contemporary fiction, fantasy, and children's books.
