Spotlight - Danny Tse

Danny Tse is a writer and artist of many varying degrees. With a degree in arts, Danny's creative expression began with building furniture, but due to physical limitations, he shifted gears to explore other artistic avenues like candle making and sewing.

His earliest writing memory is in college. As a freshman, away from home for the first time and emotionally drained, he penned his feelings, likening himself to a "dandelion that's growing in the cracks."

Primarily known for his horror writing, Danny is branching out, exploring dark romance and even children's literature as part of a playful dare from his wife - to make fun of horror cliches. This experiment arose during the pandemic—a time ripe for creativity, experimentation, and breaking free from genre conventions. He steers clear of comedy, and historical fiction.

Danny chose self-publishing to bypass the fear of rejection often associated with traditional publishing. Undestandably so. While this path offers creative control, it comes with challenges. He describes the initial thrill of publishing as soon giving way to the pressures of marketing, which can sap creativity.

His most recent release, Spiral: The Descension of Charis Corss , published in February 2024, showcases his signature psychological horror style. Danny expresses excitement about how the book challenges readers to contemplate survival and morality, while its cliffhanger ending has sparked demand for a sequel—a delightful surprise for any author.

The journey through writing and self-publishing has led Danny to engage more deeply with the writing community, joining groups and connecting with fellow authors and readers. This aspect of his journey reflects the modern author's landscape, where collaboration and support are invaluable.

For those embarking on their writing journeys, Danny offers sage advice: record yourself reading your work. This technique can illuminate narrative flow and highlight areas needing improvement. Furthermore, he emphasizes the importance of building a community well before publishing, fostering connections that can support and inspire along the way.
