4/5 - The future of our world and fun science explanations!

Zeta Evergreen was, by law, the last child to be born of this new world under Global State. The regulations prohibited new children from being born since those alive could be regenerated, keeping the level of the Earth's resources the same.

Throughout her youth, her companion was a robot, Robby, that her mother bought. The robot aimed to keep her safe and teach her things while her mother was at work.

Unfortunately, Zeta's mother passed when she was young. Her mother didn't have a 'back-up' to regenerate. Due to this, Zeta entered foster care with Robby.

Over the next few years, Zeta learned many things from Robby and even learned how to dismantle, reassemble, and program Robby. When Zeta decided to run away, everything fell into place for her.

Zeta finding information about her mother and what her mother did was beautiful. A story of self-discovery as she never knew the secrets her mother kept. For she was murdered, Luna Evergreen was a midwife for Life Shielders, an organization for helping pregnant couples and their children since having kids was unlawful.

One big aspect of this novel was science-based. Engima thought about how new technology works, why, and how as explanations were strategically placed around the story. From the creation and distribution of oxygen, scanning the brain to be revived, to space travel, if it was something that could have been thought of, it was in here. All the science explained showed the amount of research done to reach these aspects and make it feel real.

The surprises encountered throughout the novel were full of face-palming, tears, and out-of-brain expressions. While so many characters were truthful to themselves and others, the latter were evil and manipulative. However, the dynamic of good versus evil was not clear in black and white. Life Shielders and their midwives as well as the police force did things for humanity because they had no choice in preserving human life - newly born or already existing.
